Keith McDougald named A-Sun Newcomer of the Week
With 15 of his team-high 18 points coming in the second half and overtime in JU’s win over Florida, freshman Keith McDougald was named Atlantic Sun Conference “Newcomer of the Week” on Tuesday.

McDougald, a Jacksonville native, has led JU in scoring the last two games, starting with 12 points at Saint Louis before his total in the Dolphins upset of No. 20 Florida.

His biggest shots came at the free throw line. He made four free throws in the final minute to help JU’s first win over Florida since 1994 and just the fifth for JU in the all-time series.

“Keith made some big shots for us late in the game at the free throw line,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “This is a great honor for him, but it also recognizes what our team has accomplished thus far.”

McDougald is second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.3 points per game, and leads the team in 3-pointers with 16 – with four coming against the Gators.

He has started all 10 games for JU, scoring in double figures five times – starting with 11 points in his collegiate debut at Miami.

McDougald and the Dolphins will be back in action on Dec. 30 when they host Bethune-Cookman in the second half of a doubleheader with the JU women. Tipoff is set for 7:15 p.m.
