Dolphins open Music City swing against Lipscomb
Off to one of its best starts ever in conference play, the JU men’s basketball team begins a two-game road swing through Music City starting on Saturday against Lipscomb.

Picked to finish fourth in the A-Sun preseason poll, the surprising Dolphins (9-3, 3-0 A-Sun) face the preseason pick to win the league on its home floor.

With a three-game winning streak coming into the game, head coach Cliff Warren is quick to note that this team is still working to get better and fix some of the mistakes that have plagued the Dolphins in the last few games.

“When you get into conference play, the little things become even more important,” Warren said. “We’ve been working this week on correcting some mistakes and focusing on getting better each day.”

Jacksonville has won its first three conference games for just the third time in program history and enters the weekend as one of two teams still undefeated in A-Sun play, joined by Belmont.

One of keys to JU’s early success has been the plethora of scoring options and the ability to have a different play step up each night.

In the first 12 games, JU has seen eight different players lead the team in scoring – with Russell Powell leading the way with 14 points against Campbell while dishing out five assists, including the pass that set up Glenn Powell for the game-winning layup.

Lipscomb (8-5, 3-1 A-Sun) is coming off of a 75-61 win over Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday, led by A-Sun preseason “Player of the Year” Adnan Hodzic’s game-high 21 points and eight rebounds.

Hodzic is part of the highest-scoring duo in the league, joined by Josh Slater. Hodzic averaged 20.4 points and 8.4 rebounds while Slater is averaging 17.1 points and 7.1 rebounds.

Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (EST), with the game being broadcast on 1010XL as well as on the Internet at ASun.TV.
