JU tips off SunTrust River City Rumble on Wednesday
Fresh off of its most complete performance in 2011, the JU men’s basketball team looks to make it two in a row when they head across town for the SunTrust River City Rumble on Wednesday night at UNF.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at UNF Arena, with the game being broadcast on 1010XL with Barry Milligan and Artis Gilmore calling the action. The JU Alumni Association is having a pregame tailgate meetup at the California Pizza Kitchen in the Town Center starting at 5:30 p.m.
Jacksonville (12-6, 6-3 A-Sun) tied its season high in points with the 87-59 win over Kennesaw State, snapping a two-game losing streak. Travis Cohn scored a career-high 24 points in the win for JU, the first time a Dolphin has scored 20 points or more in a game this season.
“I was really pleased with our effort for 40 minutes,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “We know that everyone has to play at a high level for the entire game. We got great contributions from everyone, especially on the boards.”
The Dolphins hit seven 3-pointers in the win over KSU, the most since JU hit six in the win over Auburn on Nov. 27. Cohn hit three from behind the arc while Keith McDougald added two off the bench.
The outside shooting opened things up inside. The Dolphins held a 45-29 edge on the glass and got a double-double from Delwan Graham, who had 12 points and a career-best 13 rebounds. Glenn Powell also tied his season high with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Jacksonville jumped on the Owls early, sprinting out to a 30-5 lead in the first 12 minutes. It’s by far the largest of the season by JU, topping the 18-2 spurt against Florida Gulf Coast.
UNF (8-12, 5-4 A-Sun) has won three in a row after a 74-64 win over Mercer on Saturday. The Ospreys are led by Parker Smith’s 12.1 points per game and Jerron Granberry, who is averaging 11.4 points per game.
