Dolphins host UNF in River City Rumble on Tuesday
The JU men’s basketball team wraps up a four-game homestand on Tuesday when the Dolphins host UNF in the River City Rumble at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m., with the game being televised on Comcast Sports Southeast. Fans can listen to the game on 1010XL, with Barry Milligan and Artis Gilmore calling the action.
JU (15-7, 9-4 A-Sun) is coming off its best outside shooting night of the season, hitting eight 3-pointers in a 78-68 win over Lipscomb on Saturday. On top of the strong perimeter shooting, JU hit a season-best 26-of-30 at the free throw line.
“We did a good job of executing our offense and knocking down open shots on Saturday,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “We also made a lot of turnovers and we can’t give our opponents free possessions.”
The Dolphins have seen a balanced scoring effort in their last two games, with at least five players scoring in double figures in each contest.
Tevin Galvin broke a streak of 14 straight games in single digits with 10 points off the bench against Lipscomb. The junior forward was clutch at the free throw line, hitting 7-of-8 at the stripe.
Galvin’s big night was supported by the Dolphins 3-point shooting effort. JU hit 8-of-17 from behind the arc, with Russell Powell and Travis Cohn making three each. For Powell, it was a career high en route to 13 points.
The outside shooting provided the perfect complement to the Dolphins front court scoring. Ayron Hardy and Delwan Graham led the Dolphins with 14 points apiece, with the forwards scoring 40 points and the guards scoring 38 in the win over Lipscomb.
“We stress every day that we need everyone to score for us to be successful,” said Warren.
