Long road ends in Tuscaloosa on Thursday
The long and winding road that has been the JU men's basketball non-conference schedule comes to an end on Thursday when the Dolphins face Alabama.
Jacksonville wraps up its 11th game outside of the Atlantic Sun Conference with its ninth road game. The matchup with Alabama is the second against an SEC opponent and the third against a team that has been ranked in the AP top 25 this season.
The Dolphins are coming off a 70-65 loss to UAB back on Dec. 22, with three players finishing in double figures, led by Keith McDougald's 14 points.
"The Christmas break came at a good time for our guys to get some rest," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "They have come back ready to work and get better."
Alabama is coming off its most complete game of the season with a 69-52 win over Oklahoma State on Dec. 21. The Tide hit seven 3-pointers, with six in the first half and never let the Cowboys get into the game.
Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. (Eastern), with the game being televised on Comcast Sports Southeast (Channel 54 in Jacksonville). Fans can also hear the game on 1010XL or watch on the Internet via ESPN3.
The Matchup... Thursday’s game is just the second ever between the two programs with the last coming on Dec. 13, 1965. Alabama won that contest in Jacksonville, 91-76.
- Glenn Powell saw his streak of double digit scoring efforts stall at four as he was held to just nine points at UAB.
- Aloys Cabell came off the bench with 10 points, with eight coming in the second half.
- Jeremy Bogus gave JU some huge minutes and some even bigger baskets en route to a career-best seven points. The freshman hit two 3-pointers in the second half, including a four-point play.
