JU men use strong inside game to blast UNF, 72-50
Marcus Allen put up his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds as the JU men’s basketball team knocked off UNF, 72-50, on Thursday at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in the SunTrust River City Rumble.

Allen’s effort led three Dolphins (14-10, 12-3 A-Sun) in double figures, lifting JU to the top of the league standings by a half-game.

Lehmon Colbert scored a game-high 13 points for JU and Ayron Hardy added 12 as JU won its sixth straight against the Ospreys.

“We executed our game plan and hit our free throws,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “It was a very physical game, but we did a great job of getting on the boards and keeping them off.”

The Dolphins led from start to finish, using a strong night at the free throw line to win the game. JU went to the line 42 times, hitting 34, as UNF was whistled for 30 fouls and had two players foul out.

JU’s 34 free throws is the most this season and the most made by the Dolphins in a game since 2006. The total is the ninth highest output in a single game in JU history.

The Dolphins led from the opening tip and built a 15 point lead at halftime, owning a 30-15 advantage going into the intermission.

JU slowly extended the lead in the second half and never let UNF back into the game, building a 23-point lead at one point.

UNF (5-20, 3-12 A-Sun) got 12 points from Stan Januska and 10 from Zack Riggins.

The Dolphins get the weekend off before facing Campbell on Monday at the Arena in the second half of a doubleheader with the women’s team. Tipoff is set for 7:15 p.m.
