JU resumes preparation for NIT
After focusing on academics for three days, the JU men’s basketball team returned to the court on Thursday in preparation for the first round of the NIT early next week.

The Dolphins (18-13) will find out their first round opponent on Sunday night at 9 p.m. The NIT Selection Show will air live on ESPNU, with JU playing either on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

“After spending 12 days in Nashville, we needed to get our young men focused on their academic work,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “The professors have been great to work with in getting the team their assignments and any make-up work they need to do.”

Jacksonville will be making its first postseason appearance since 1987, when the Dolphins lost by two points at Vanderbilt in the first round of the NIT.

“While we are disappointed with coming up short in the tournament, we are excited about going to the postseason,” Warren said. “It’s a tough week in terms of preparation since we don’t know who we’re going to play, so we’re focusing on the things we can control with the goal of getting better each day.”

The Dolphins will be making their fifth appearance in the NIT, looking for their first win in the event since 1974 when JU advanced to the Final Four at Madison Square Garden.

It will be the 10th postseason appearance in school history as JU has been to the NCAA Tournament five times (1970, 1971, 1973, 1979, 1986) and the NIT (1972, 1974, 1980, 1987, 2009).

Following the announcement of the tournament field, JU will announce its travel plans for the event. For information on tickets, contact the JU ticket office at 904-256-7444 to be placed on the waiting list as there will be a limited number of tickets available.
