Dolphins look to bounce back Monday at Stetson
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Jacksonville was unable to overcome a slow start against a hot shooting FGCU team on Saturday. The Dolphins (7-9; 2-1) were dealt their first A-Sun loss of the year with a 78-55 defeat that ended a two game win streak for JU.
The Eagles (10-6; 2-1) opened the game on a 13-2 run in the first five minutes and never looked back building up a 43-17 lead at halftime. The Dolphins, who were coming off an 85-point showing against Lipscomb on Wednesday, were held to a season low 28.6 percent shooting.
Senior Glenn Powell (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) had another strong game inside the paint as he led the Dolphins with 19 points on 7-9 from the field. Junior Dylan Fritsch (Albuquerque, N.M.) scored 10 of his 13 points in the opening five minutes of the second half that helped lead JU to a 38-35 advantage after the break.
“Our effort in the second half was much better than the first," said Head Coach Cliff Warren. “Our guys understand that there are more games to come and now that the game is over we need to focus on getting ready for Stetson on Monday.”
Freshman Kordario Fleming (Memphis, Tenn.) added a career best 11 rebounds to go along with his seven points and four assists.
The Dolphins continue their two game swing at Stetson on Monday. Stetson (1-2) lost to North Florida, 90-74 on Saturday.
