In the past eight seasons under Cliff Warren the program has graduated 19 of 19 seniors

The final chapter on two memorable careers finished this May as Jacksonville men’s basketball graduates Glenn Powell and Russell Powell received their degrees. Seeing the Class of 2013 walk across the stage also brought about another milestone for the program.

In eight seasons under Head Coach Cliff Warren, the Dolphins men’s basketball program has graduated 19 of 19 seniors.

“It makes me proud to know that these young men are graduating on time and they will be productive citizens who have made their families and this University proud,” said Warren.

A 2011 report by the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) at UCLA states that only 38.9 percent of students across the country complete a degree after four years. For public institutions the four-year graduation rate is 23.5 percent. The report also found that private universities are graduating students in four years at a rate of 64 percent.

By having all 19 student-athletes who have completed their eligibility at Jacksonville under Warren receive their degree on time, he feels a larger sense of pride for those individuals then anything they have accomplished on the basketball court.

“The first thing I tell every young man and his family when we first start the recruiting process is that it is our obligation as a coaching staff to ensure they graduate from our University.

The graduation success by the men’s basketball program is a testament to the quality of education and academic support structure put in place at Jacksonville.

“The support our student-athletes receive from the faculty and professors, along with so many others at this University has enabled these young men to complete their degrees in four years and build upon our tradition of successful graduates.”
