JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The wait is over.

After a month of hard work on the practice court, the JU men's basketball team opens its 2007-08 season on Sunday at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena against Savannah State.

Tipoff is set for 4 p.m., with the game being broadcast on 1010XL as Barry Milligan calls the action. The game will also be aired live on ASun.TV through JUDolphins.com.

A year ago, the Dolphins pulled off the biggest single-season turnaround in the country by improving by 14 wins courtesy of a 12-1 mark at home.

"We're ready to get on the floor and really get into the season," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "Savannah State is a good team and is going to be a good test for us to start the season."

The Dolphins return three starters from a year ago, headlined by former Atlantic Sun Conference all-freshman team selections Marcus Allen, Lehmon Colbert and Ben Smith.

Colbert is the leading returning scorer from last year's team, averaging 11.7 points per game. Allen led the team in rebounds a year ago, averaging seven per game to go along with a 9.3 points per game average.

The Dolphins will also work some new faces into the lineup from a talented recruiting class. Ayron Hardy and Andre McMillan look to be in the starting lineup in the opener with Szymon Lukasiak, Aric Brooks and Travis Cohn adding depth off the bench.
