JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior guard Shawn Platts and sophomore guard Kevin Sheppard each scored 19 points as JU outscored Samford 44-22 in the second half en route to a 74-51 win over the Bulldogs in TAAC play at Swisher Gymnasium Thursday night. JU, which has won seven of its last eight games, improves to 16-7 (9-5 TAAC), marking the most wins for the Dolphins since the 1994-95 season.

Platts hit 9-of-13 from the field, while handing out five assists, grabbing four rebounds and recording a career-best eight steals. The Dolphins forced 19 turnovers which led to 23 points, and limited the Bulldogs to 39 percent shooting for the game, including 2-of-12 from beyond the arc in the second half. Senior center Kris Hunter (Tallahassee, Fla.) added nine points, a game-high 10 rebounds and three blocks for JU, as the Dolphins outscored Samford 38-16 in the paint and 14-0 on the fast break.
Samford had three players in double figures led by Chris Weaver's 14 points, 11 of which came in the first half. Derrick Jones added 12, while the TAAC's leading scorer, Marc Salyers, managed only 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting. Salyers entered the game averaging 17.5 points per contest.
JU quickly turned a 30-29 halftime lead into a 52-40 advantage with a 22-11 run in the first 9:14 of the second half, as Sheppard scored 11 quick points, including three treys from way downtown. The lead never got below double digits again as the Dolphins finished the game on a 13-2 run in the final 6:30 to record their most lopsided TAAC win of the season.
JU returns to action on Saturday against Jacksonville State at 7:30 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
