Dolphins Come From Behind To Down Jacksonville State, 64-59

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore guard Kevin Sheppard (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) led three Dolphins in double figures as JU shot 59 percent in the second half to post a 64-59 come-from-behind win over Jacksonville State Saturday night at Swisher Gymnasium. The Dolphins, who have won seven of their last eight games, improve to 17-7 overall, 10-5 in the TAAC and move into a three-way tie for second place in the conference with Samford and Stetson.

Brandon Williams (Pomona, Calif.) added 11 points, while Shawn Platts (Jacksonville, Fla.) scored 10 and grabbed seven boards as JU scored 44 second-half points. The Dolphins scored 19 points off of 15 Gamecock turnovers, including 16 in the second half when JU erased a seven-point deficit with a 12-2 run to tie the game at 38.

JU trailed 23-20 at the half, but scored four quick buckets in the paint, including three-point plays by Williams and Johnny Jones (West Palm Beach, Fla.) to even the score. After the fifth tie of the second half at 51, JU took the lead for good with an 8-0 run keyed by two slashing layups from James Daniels (Port St. Joe, Fla.). The Dolphins' full-court pressure forced JSU into six missed shots and two turnovers during the run. JU hit four free throws in the final minute to ice the game.

Mike McDaniel paced the Gamecocks with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Earl Bullock added 14 and Emerson Brown scored 12.

JU returns to action on Thursday as the Dolphins take on first-place Georgia State (21-3, 12-2 TAAC) in Atlanta.
