Feb. 17, 2001
BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) - Adam Fellers scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Zydrunas Stankus scored 14 on 6-of-9 shooting as Campbell scored 49 second-half points to defeat JU, 78-68, on Senior Day at Carter Gym. The win broke a 10-game losing streak for the Camels and handed the Dolphins their second straight loss.
All 14 of Stankus' points came in the second half as Campbell made 16-of-30 shots and connected on 12-of-14 free throws after intermission. Emory Walton added 14 points and eight assists as the Camels out-rebounded JU 39-34 and committed only 10 turnovers.
Brandon Williams led the Dolphins with 17 points, while Johnny Jones added a career-high 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench. Kris Hunter had 10 points, eight boards and six blocks, but was not much of a factor on the afternoon. JU hit only 3-of-20 shots from beyond the arc.
Leading 29-28 at the half, Campbell went on a 13-4 run at the 15:08 mark as Stankus hit a pair of three-pointers and Fellers knocked down the first of his three treys to give the Camels a 52-42 lead with 10:16 to play. A dunk by Hunter cut the lead to eight, but Campbell answered with an 8-0 run to extend the lead to 60-44.
The Camels' lead got as high as 17 on two occasions and never got below double digits the rest of the way.
