Men's Basketball Edged By Texas, 96-90

AUSTIN (AP) - Brandon Mouton scored a career-high 19 points to lead Texas to a 96-90 win over Jacksonville Saturday night.

Mouton scored 13 points in the second half as Texas (5-3) managed to hold off Jacksonville (5-2), which trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half but by only five with two minutes to play.

Texas made just 5-of-10 free throws in the final two minutes but Jacksonville was unable to capitalize, making just two of its final eight field-goal attempts.

Five Texas players scored in double figures, including T.J. Ford and James Thomas, who each scored a career-high 17 points.

Ford also had 10 assists and seven rebounds, while Thomas added eight rebounds.

Jacksonville got 26 points from Calvin Warner and Kevin Sheppard, career-highs for both. Travis Robinson added 20 points.

Texas led 53-46 at halftime behind 10 points apiece from Ford and Royal Ivey.

Jacksonville opened the second half on an 8-3 run to get within two points at 56-54 but could get no closer.

Mouton scored nine of Texas' next 14 points as the Longhorns increased their lead to 70-61 with 12:17 remaining.

Texas scored the first nine points of the game and built a pair of early 15-point leads. Then Jacksonville closed to 44-41 with three minutes remaining in the first half behind Robinson, who scored 10 points in just over two minutes to lead the comeback.
