CAROLINA, Puerto Rico (AP) - Markius Barnes scored 23 points as Oral Roberts beat Jacksonville 73-64 Thursday in the first round of the Carolina Shootout.

Barnes made eight of the 24 free throws by the Golden Eagles (4-7) in the second half after 18 fouls by Jacksonville (6-3). Oral Roberts made 24 of 28 free throws after halftime after making its only two before then.

Oral Roberts took the lead for good when Barnes made a layup for a 32-31 score with 18:04 left. Tyrone Tiggs, who had nine assists, faked a shot before passing to Barnes.

Jacksonville trailed 46-45 when Antwan Robertson drove for a layup with 11:08 to go. But Richie Myers made two free throws and Luke Spencer-Gardner hit a 3-pointer after a miss by the Dolphins, who never got closer than four points after that.

Oral Roberts made 17 of 20 free throws the final 10 minutes, the three misses coming in the final minute.

The Dolphins took a 29-28 halftime lead on Travis Robinson's 3-pointer from half court at the buzzer. The teams traded field goals to start the second half before Barnes' go-ahead shot.

Kevin Sheppard led Jacksonville with 16 points and five assists. James Daniels added 13 points.

Spencer-Gardner added 14 points for Oral Roberts, while Reggie Borges had 12.

The Golden Eagles were coming off their biggest win ever over a Division I opponent, having beaten Texas-Arlington 115-62 on Monday night after scoring 70 points in the first half. Their seven losses are to teams with a combined record of 38-16 (.704 winning percentage).
