MACON, Ga.--The Jacksonville University Dolphins (15-6, 9-3 A-Sun) used a 13-0 run to end the first half and begin the second half to cruise to a 74-58 victory over the Mercer Bears (3-17, 1-10 A-Sun) in Porter Gym Saturday evening.

Mercer has now lost 10 straight games while the Dolphins grabbed sole possession atop the league standings by virtue of their victory and Samford's loss at Campbell.

The Bears led 22-20 with 8:42 remaining in the first half but a 9-0 run by the visitors gave them a lead they would not relinquish. JU scored the final five points of the half to push the lead to 38-28 at the break and then Travis Robinson canned back-to-back 3-pointers to begin the second half and push the lead to 44-28.

Down by 18, Mercer rattled off nine straight points to narrow the margin to nine points with twelve minutes remaining, but the Bears would get no closer the rest of the way.

JU point guard Kevin Sheppard controlled the second half and finished the game with a double-double as he posted 11 points and 10 assists in the victory. The Virgin Islands native had only one turnover in 36 minutes of action.

Travis Robinson led the Dolphins with 19 points while Tabari Brown added 13 and James Daniels tossed in 12. The visitors had 16 assists and only eight turnovers and they outrebounded Mercer 32-29.

The hosts got a game high 20 points and nine rebounds from junior center Justin Howard. The Orlando native was 9 for 12 from the floor and 2 for 3 at the free throw line. Aleem Muhammad was the only other Bear to reach double figures as he added 11 in the loss.
