Basketball Opens Season Against Saint Leo

Series Record: JU has never faced Saint Leo in basketball.
Up Next: The Dolphins will face Cal State Northridge in the first round of the John Thompson Foundation Challenge in Eugene, Ore. Following the tournament, JU will play at Savannah State on Wed., Nov. 27, before taking Thanksgiving off. The Dolphins leave again on Friday for Starkville to play No. 13 Mississippi State on Saturday and at New Orleans on Monday, Dec. 2.
Season Openers ... The Dolphins are 25-19 all-time in season openers dating back to the 1957-58 season. JU has won seven of its last eight openers, including a 77-67 win over Florida Tech last year at Swisher Gymnasium. The Dolphins have won six-straight season openers at home dating back to the 1991-92 season.
Daniels & Warner Shine ... Senior guard James Daniels and senior forward Calvin Warner looked strong in the Dolphins' two exhibition wins. Daniels averaged 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game, while shooting 58 percent (15-24) from the floor and 50 percent (6-12) from the 3-point line. Warner averaged 18.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in the two games, while shooting 71 percent (15-21) from the floor.
Experience The Key ... Experience will be a key factor in the Dolphins' success this season. JU has eight seniors on the roster, including all five starters. The Dolphins also have four fifth-year seniors: Tabari Brown, Ryan Lewis, Kevin Sheppard and Calvin Warner.
Have Game, Will Travel ... JU will once again hit the road this season in preparation for the A-Sun conference schedule, logging nearly 16,000 miles by the end of the regular season. The Dolphins will play eight of their first 10 games on the road, including seven straight after opening the season against Saint Leo at Swisher Gymnasium. All totaled, JU will travel 12,059 miles before beginning conference play in January.
