EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Kevin Sheppard scored 21 points and added six assists as Jacksonville beat Grambling State 82-68 in the consolation game of the John Thompson Foundation Challenge Monday night.

Tabari Brown had 13 points and 12 assists for the Dolphins (2-1), who led by as many as 19 points in the second half.

Steve Taylor had 18 points for Grambling State, which has lost its first three games of the season.

Jacksonville pulled out to a 42-31 lead in the second half on James Daniels' 3-pointer at 16:44, but the Tigers pulled to within six points on Brion Rush's 3-pointer at 15:37. It was the closest Grambling State would come.

Jacksonville wrestled to keep a lead throughout the first half. The Tigers took a 14-12 lead early on another Rush 3-pointer, but Jacksonville came back to take a 26-23 advantage on Jeff Howard's jumper with 3:46 left.

Another Howard jumper gave the Dolphins their largest margin of the first half, 32-26, with 1:45 left.

Grambling State lost to No. 10 Oregon in the opening game, 97-52, on Sunday night. Jacksonville lost to Cal State Northridge, 67-55.

The Tigers have had a tough start, with a 99-46 loss on the road to Georgetown in their season opener.

With the victory, Jacksonville coach Hugh Durham is just seven wins shy of 600 for his career.
