Hugh Durham Gets 600th Win as Dolphins Down Gardner-Webb, 87-75

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior forward Calvin Warner (Jacksonville/Sandalwood) scored a career-high 35 points and head coach Hugh Durham got his 600th career victory as JU downed Gardner-Webb, 87-75, Saturday night in Atlantic Sun action at Swisher Gymnasium. Durham becomes the 10th active Division I coach to win 600 games as the Dolphins won for the fifth time in the last six games.

Senior point guard Kevin Sheppard (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) added 15 points and dished out eight assists to move up to third on the JU all-time assist chart alongside Cricket Williams (1976-79) with 380 career assists. James Daniels (Port St. Joe, Fla.) hit three of the Dolphins' six three-pointers to finish with 12 points as JU shot 51 percent for the game. Warner hit a career-best 16-of-21 shots from the field, grabbed four boards and blocked four shots as JU outscored the Bulldogs, 44-22, in the paint. The Dolphins also scored 29 points off 19 Gardner-Webb turnovers and recorded 13 steals for the second consecutive games.

JU stretched a six-point halftime advantage to a 58-39 lead with a 15-2 run over the first 3:59 of the second half. Warner scored 10 of his 23 second-half points during the JU surge, including back-to-back dunks that ignited the Dolphins. JU shot 57 percent in the second half and led by as much as 25. Tim Behrendorff scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead the Bulldogs, while Brendan Clowry came off the bench to score 12.
