ORLANDO, Fla. - Senior forward Nolan McBride (Hartford, Conn.) continued his hot hand scoring 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting, but UCF knocked down nine treys and dominated the boards in the second half to beat the Dolphins, 78-69, Thursday night at the UCF Arena. UCF (18-4, 13-2), which swept the season series from JU for the first time since the 1999-2000 season, moved into a tie for first place in the A-Sun. JU (11-12, 6-10) lost for just the second time in the last seven games, while dropping its first season series.

Freshman Haminn Quaintance (Sarasota, Fla.) added 15 points and 11 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season, while David Lee (Columbus, Ga.) scored 17 and matched a career high with four assists. McBride also had five assists and four steals has the Dolphins forced 18 turnovers. UCF outrebounded JU, 41-27, including 22-10 in the second half. Dexter Lyons had 25 points to lead the Golden Knights, who shot 58 percent in the second half.

UCF extended a five-point halftime lead to 11 in the first three minutes of the second half. Roberto Morentin scored in the paint and then Lyons followed with six straight points to give the Knights a 45-34 lead. JU battled back within five with 14:25 to play, but Lyons answered with a three and UCF was able to extend the lead back to 10. McBride, who scored 13 consecutive points in the final four minutes of the game, nailed the first of his four three-pointers to bring JU within six at 58-52 with 9:18 to play. The Golden Knights answered with a 14-5 run to open up a 15-point lead.

JU used a 17-7 run to take a 22-21 lead with 6:26 remaining in the first half, but Lyons keyed a late spurt to give the Golden Knights a 37-32 lead at the break. Morentin finished with 16 for UCF, while Josh Pepper came off the bench to score 10. The Golden Knights had three players with five assists in the game.

The Dolphins return to action on Saturday at Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton at 7 p.m.
