Basketball Falls To UCF, 75-57

ORLANDO, Fla. - JU sophomore forward Haminn Quaintance posted his third straight double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, but UCF held the Dolphins to just one field goal in the final 7:53 to pull away for a 75-57 win Sunday afternoon at the UCF Arena. JU (5-7, 1-4 A-Sun) tied the game at 52-52, but the UCF (9-4, 2-3 A-Sun) finished the game on a 23-5 run to break a two-game losing streak.
David Lee added 11 points for the Dolphins, who used a 13-2 run midway through the second half to erase an 11-point deficit. The Golden Knights out-rebounded JU, 39-23, and hit 10 three-pointers. Marcus Avant led five UCF players in double figures with 14 points, including 4-of-6 treys.
JU jumped out to an early 9-4 lead before UCF hit four straight three-pointers and used a 20-5 run to build a 15-point first-half lead. The Dolphins answered with a 10-0 run and a Lee three-pointer brought JU within seven at the half.
The Golden Knights led by as much as 12 in the second half and were leading 50-39 when the Dolphis began their run. Mario Brown hit a pair of free throws and Lee hit a jumper. Brown followed with another pair of free throws and then Quaintance drilled a three to cut the UCF lead to 52-48 with 9:26 to play. Antonio Cool scored on putback in the lane and then Lee hit a running 12-footer to tie the game at 52-52. JU missed its next eight shots before Brown scored inside with 25 seconds to play.
JU returns to action on Tuesday at Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m.
