Basketball's Haminn Quaintance Named A-Sun Player of Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University forward Haminn Quaintance (Sarasota, Fla.) has been named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office today. Quaintance averaged 21.0 points and 11.0 rebounds last week, while leading the Dolphins to an overtime win over UCF on Saturday and recording his eighth double-double of the season vs. Florida Atlantic on Thursday. With three games remaining in the regular season, JU (14-10, 10-7 A-Sun) is in third place in the A-Sun standings, just a game back of second-place Belmont (11-13, 10-6) and a game-and-a-half back from league leader Gardner-Webb (14-9, 11-5).

The 6-foot-7 sophomore also averaged 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game last week, while shooting 56 percent (14-25) from the field. Quaintance started the week by scoring a career-best 27 points and grabbing 15 rebounds against Florida Atlantic, while dishing out three assists and recording three steals. In JU's 83-82 overtime thriller with UCF, Quaintance scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds on 5-of-10 shooting, while swiping two more steals and handing out three assists.

For the season, the reigning A-Sun Freshman of the Year is among the league leaders in seven statistical categories, including scoring (12.8 ppg), rebounds (8.9 rpg), blocks (2.4 bpg), assists (3.0 apg), steals (2.0 spg) and field goal percentage (.500). Quaintance has scored in double figures in 41-of-51 career games, including 17 this season, while recording 17 career double-doubles.

JU returns to action Friday at Troy at 7:30 p.m. in the first of three straight road games to end the regular season. The game will be featured as the A-Sun Game of the Week on CSS-TV with Barry Milligan and Sonny Smith on the call.
