Basketball season opens Friday

Oct. 13, 2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The familiar sound of basketballs dribbling will be heard throughout Swisher Gymnasium on Friday night.

That's when the Jacksonville men's and women's basketball teams will begin their 2005-06 season with the first practice of the year.

For men's head coach Cliff Warren, it marks his first full practice with the Dolphins.  The first practice open to the public is set for Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

"I'm excited about getting this season started," Warren said.  "We've come a long way in our preseason workouts, but we've got a long way to go before we even play a game.  We plan on continuing to improve by working even harder in the preseason."

On the women's side, head coach Jill Dunn has a lot of new faces in her program as she continues to rebuild the program.

"We're a young team and with a young team, you've got a lot of teaching to do," Dunn said.  "This is a great group of student-athletes and I'm looking forward to getting on the floor and starting the season."

"Cliff Notes" set to debut on website - "Cliff Notes", a new journal feature on the men's basketball program, is set to debut on Friday evening.  "Cliff Notes" will feature the thoughts of first-year head men's basketball coach Cliff Warren after practice each day.
