Countdown to tipoff - Seven Days

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - One week is all that is left of the preseason. One week of practices, scrimmages and beating up on each other every day. One more week of getting ready for the 2005-06 season.

And for the Jacksonville men's basketball team, it's one more week before the season tips off on Saturday at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena against Florida State.

"We've worked hard during the preseason practices in getting ready for the upcoming season," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "Now, we're going to see what we've learned and in the process, continue to work hard each day at getting better."

The Dolphins are opening their 58th season and in the process are looking for their first back-to-back winning seasons since 2001-02.

Other notes of interest entering the season:

-This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Dolphins last NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the Sun Belt Conference tournament title with an upset win over UAB.

-With its 10th win of the season, Jacksonville will record its 800th win in school history. JU enters the season sporting an all-time record of 790-675.

-Jacksonville will be making six appearances on television this season, including three times at Swisher Gymnasium.

-This year marks the second straight year that the Dolphins face Florida and Florida State. In all, Jacksonville will play nine games against in-state competition this season (USF, Florida Atlantic twice, North Florida twice and Stetson twice).

Starting Monday, will be doing a five-part series previewing the upcoming season for the Dolphins. Each day, the staff at will break down the back court, the front court, the personnel, the coaches, the schedule and the Atlantic Sun Conference.
