March 1, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After a spectacular season, Jacksonville's Marcus Allen was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman team as announced by the league office.

Allen, a native of Hollywood, Fla., finished the season fourth on the team in scoring with an average of 11.7 points per game. He led the Dolphins in rebounds, averaging 6.5 per game.

"This is a great honor for Marcus and one that he rightly deserves," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "Marcus really matured as the season went along and stepped up as a leader for our team. He took what the coaches were teaching during individual workouts and improved his play throughout the season."

On the year, Allen scored in double figures 17 times and recorded six double-doubles. To cap his fabulous freshman year off, Allen scored 20 points or more in each of JU's last three games and led the team in scoring in each game.

He scored a season-high 30 points against Mercer, leading the Dolphins back from a 10-point deficit to force overtime.

Andre Morgan from Kennesaw State won "Freshman of the Year" honors and joins Allen on the all-freshman team. The other members of the team are Florida Atlantic's Carlos Monroe, ETSU's Courtney Pigram and Belmont's Andy Wicke.
