Men's basketball to face Coastal Carolina on Sunday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After spending this week studying and taking final exams, the JU men's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Sunday for its only home game of the month against Coastal Carolina.

Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The game can be heard on ESPN 1460 and can be seen live through the JU Sports Network's video stream on

The Dolphins (3-5) are looking to snap a three-game losing streak after dropping two games at the Atlantic Sun Conference preseason favorites Belmont and Lipscomb.

The game also is a rematch from last year as Coastal took an 81-66 decision at home, the first game the Dolphins didn't have Jesse Kimbrough.

"Coastal Carolina is a good team and they've got a lot of weapons that can beat you," said JU head coach Cliff Warren. "We've got to get out on their shooters because they have the ability to take over a game."

In the last three games, Lehmon Colbert has become a consistent weapon from both the inside and outside. He put up at least 11 points in all three games last week and was 5-of-9 from 3-point land.

He also averaged 4.3 rebounds per game and hit 14-of-23 from the floor (60.3 percent) in leading the Dolphins in scoring twice.

Colbert has been part of the high-scoring freshman class that put up a majority of the Dolphins points in the last four games. Against Belmont last week, JU's freshmen put up 38 of the Dolphins' 68 points. Their highest total of the season was 54 of JU's 87 against South Carolina State, with four players scoring in double figures.

"Our freshmen continue to improve, but they are freshmen," Warren said. "They are continuing to learn each time out with every game being a new experience. We're asking them to do a lot and with finals over this week, they will get to focus on basketball for the next three weeks."
