Women’s cross country wins JU/UNF 2x1 Relay
The JU women’s cross country rose to the occasion for the second straight week to win the JU/UNF 2x1 Relay on Saturday morning on Thompson Track at the Ashley Sports Complex.

The format for the meet consisted of two-person teams alternating mile run legs to total four miles per team and two miles per competitor.

The Dolphins’ women edged out their cross-town rival UNF to win 10-to-11, while the Osprey men won their side of the meet.

“Today was a good day that answered some questions for us,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “All six women ran intelligently, their second miles were excellent.

“I think this group has the ability to be the best women’s team in my tenure at JU. It has been a long time since we could say we were competitive with UNF in women’s cross country because the Ospreys and Coach Van Alstyne always produce quality teams.”

The junior tandem of Ali Ritter and Alyssa Deal finished second in the meet with a total time of 23:08. Sophomores Susanne Klungtveit and Kelli Midden were third with a mark of 23:29, while juniors Elsabeth Goshu and Tiffanie Saxton had a combined time of 23:50 to finish fifth for the Dolphins.

Ritter also had the second fastest average with a time of 5:43.5, while Goshu and Klungtveit tied for third with a 5:45.5.

On the men’s side, the pair of sophomore Dylan Kosten and senior Clay Garrett had a time of 23:44 for ninth.

The Dolphins’ women are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 20, in Gainesville, Fla. for the Mountain Dew Invitational.
