Men’s cross country competes at the Invitational on Friday

The JU men’s cross country team will lace up its Nike shoes once again as the Dolphins race at the Invitational on Friday in Titusville, Fla.

The Dolphins are competing in their first action since running in the season opening JU Short Course Duals on Sept. 3.

“I will be looking forward to watch the men race for the first time in almost a month,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “We shall see how much progress we have made.”

Senior Andrew Maedel was the top finisher for the Dolphins in the first meet with a time of 17:31.26 (14th). Senior Gene Sarsfield was 24th with a time of 19:22.44, while freshman Sidney Houting (19:40.87) finished 26th overall.

Freshman Esteban Mendez (20:46.94), freshman Tyler Samburgh (21:29.91) and junior Patrick Abbey (22:04.11) rounded out the rest of the Dolphins.

Last season, the Dolphins had three runners in the top 50 at the Invitational - including Maedel, who placed sixth with a time of 16:16.22.

Sarsfield was in 45th place with a time of 18:22.67, while Abbey placed 56th with a time of 18:56.93.
