Cross country races at FLRunners.com Invitational on Friday
The JU women’s and men’s cross country teams will be in action Friday at the FLRunners.com Invitational in Titusville, Fla.
The women are running in a meet for the second straight week after competing in the UF Mountain Dew Invitational on Sept. 24. The men’s team is in its first action since the JU Short Course Duals on Sept. 2.
“The FLRunners.com Invitational will provide an opportunity for a little bit of redemption for the women,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “No one is satisfied with how they competed last weekend. We expect significant improvement.
“For the men, they have been training hard for almost a month waiting for this opportunity. I am anxious to see their results.”
The women’s squad finished fourth at the Mountain Dew Invitational for the third time in the last four seasons, finishing ahead of Miami (7th), FGCU (9th), UCF (10th) and Stetson (16th).
Junior Joane Pierre was the Dolphins top individual finisher after placing 12th with a time of 18:07.86.
Sophomore Svenja Meyer ran a time of 18:40.19 (22nd), while senior Bailee Hedstrom was three spots behind her running an 18:48.67 to round out the top JU finishers.
On the men’s side, the Dolphins put in a solid effort at the duals.
Senior Jesse Brantman finished 15th in 19:23.79, while sophomore Matthew Outlaw ran a time of 19:30.63 for 16th place.
Freshman Jason Aquaviva ran a time of 19:37.56 (18th), while freshman Martin Crouse (20:04.26, 20th) and sophomore Esteban Mendez (20:6.34, 21st) finished within a few seconds of each other.
Freshman Taylor Fisher registered a time of 22:02.55 to round out the JU runners.
Last season, the women’s team took the top five individual spots at the FLRunners.com Invitational to win the team title for the second consecutive year.
Pierre finished first with a time of 18:38.71, while Hedstrom (18:48.95) and Meyer (18:54.25) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Mendez ran a time of 19:35.72 for the men’s team at the meet.
