Men’s cross country wraps A-Sun Championships
The JU men’s cross country team closed out the 2012 season with the A-Sun Championships Saturday morning.
Freshman Nick Dale again led the young squad by running a time of 27:32.6 for 53rd. Freshman Ryan Wagner was the next highest finisher in only his third race with a 29:10.3 (66th) and freshman Andrew Merrill was 70th in 29:39.2.
“For most of the men's team, this was their first conference experience,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “They were out a little fast, but they showed they were competitors by toughing it out in the hot and sunny conditions.”
Junior Esteban Mendez ran a time of 30:27.5 (73rd) in his final race for the Dolphins. Freshman James Trebilcock was three spots behind him in 33:23.6.
“I am grateful for the leadership Esteban has provided during his time at JU,” Grigg said. “Although he is only a junior, he will graduate in just three years. Nick and Ryan had real nice races, and their futures are bright.”
USC Upstate won the team title with 49 points, while East Tennessee State was second with 53 points. Kennesaw State, Florida Gulf Coast, Mercer made up the rest of the top five, while Northern Kentucky, Lipscomb, North Florida, Stetson and Jacksonville rounded out the group.
