Amid blustery conditions, the JU men’s golf team posted rounds of 317 and 302 to sit in 13th place after the first day of the UK Bluegrass Invitational.
The Dolphins were in 15th place after the first round as only three teams posted rounds under 300. Scores improved in the afternoon, with JU being one of the teams to do better in the second round with a 15-stroke improvement. “Everybody had trouble with the wind and cold temperatures in the morning round,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “We did a much better job of controlling our game and taking advantage of our opportunities.” Kentucky leads the 17-team event after posting a three-under par 285 in the afternoon to hold a nine-shot lead over Western Carolina. Kentucky’s Ben Fuqua and Bowling Green’s Matt Schneider lead the individual competition at one-under par.
