The JU men’s golf team struggled in the final round to remain in 13th place at the UK Bluegrass Invitational.
The Dolphins shot 319 in the final round, led by Stephen Healy’s five-over par 77. JU shot 74-over par for the tournament.
Kentucky won its home event by 10 shots over Western Carolina in the 17-team event, finishing at 16-over par as a team. Austin Peay’s Erik Barnes shot a tournament-best five-under par 67 to win the individual title at one-under par, 215.
“We definitely didn’t play our best this weekend,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “We left a lot of shots out there and let the conditions get to us. We’ve got one tournament left and we’re going to try to put everything together next week.”
Healy’s final round continued his improvement through the tournament. After opening with an 82, the sophomore from Ireland bounced back with a 76 in the second round and a 77 to tie for 51st at 19-over par, 235.
He was joined in 51st with teammates Christian Martin and Justin Jones. Martin shot an 81 in the final round while Jones had an 80.
Josh Kinsey carded an 81 in the final round as well to tie for 58th at 21-over par, 237. Bobby Fredeking finished with an 81 as well, finishing in a tie for 73rd at 26-over par.
The Dolphins will prep this week for next week’s Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at the Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, N.C.
