Men’s golf finishes ninth at the A-Sun Championship
The JU men’s golf team finished in ninth place at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, putting an end to the 2008-09 campaign.
In day in which the scoring average was the highest of the week, Kinsey carded a six-over par 78 in the final round to tie for 11th in the individual competition at three-over par. As a team, JU shot an 18-over par round of 306 to finish in ninth place in the 11-team event. Campbell, playing on its home course, hung on for the team title despite shooting a 14-over par round of 302 – finishing the 54-hole event at three-over par, 867. East Tennessee State’s Michael Stewart won the individual title, carding a one-under par 71 to finish at three-under par after starting the day in a tie for 10th. The Dolphins were 29 shots back at 896, improving on their 10th place finish of a year ago. “I’m proud of the guys for how hard they worked this season,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “We’ve come a long way since we started in the fall, but the guys returning know we’ve got a long way to go to reach our goals of being in the postseason.” Leading the Dolphins in the final round was senior Christian Martin, who posted a two-over par 74 in his final collegiate round. He finished the tournament tied for 47th at 18-over par. Bobby Fredeking ended his freshman season with a four-over par 76 to tie for 27th at eight-over par – putting up three birdies on the day. Stephen Healy and Kinsey each shot a six-over par 78 to finish their tournaments. Healy ended his sophomore season in a tie for 34th at 10-over par. Justin Jones shot an 11-over par 83 in the final round to tie for 50th at 20-over par. |
