
Sophomore Bobby Fredeking opened his season with a two-under par 70 to tie for 11th in the individual competition, just four shots out of the lead.
In the team competition, JU is tied for sixth with Appalachian State and Villanova at one-under par. Stetson leads the 15-team event at 14-over par, holding five shot lead over Wofford.
“I’m pleased with how we played today,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “We left a few shots out there today, but this is a great start to the season and something we can build off of the rest of the weekend.”
Joining Fredeking in red numbers was junior Gavin St. John Frost. Frost posted a one-under par 71 to sit in a tie for 19th.
Senior Justin Jones opened his final collegiate season with an even-par 72 to tie for 27th. Sophomore Will Braude was impressive in his opening round as a Dolphin, shooting a two-over par 74 to count towards the team score and tying for 42nd.
Freshman Jamey Salmon is tied for 69th after carding a four-over par 76.
The Dolphins will continue their season opening event with the second round on Saturday. The shotgun start begins at 8:30 a.m.
