Men's golf ties for 12th at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate
The JU men's golf team shot a nine-over par round of 297 to slip into a tie for 12th at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Bobby Fredeking, who entered the day tied for sixth at three-under par, shot a two-over par 74 to slip into a tie for 16th at one-under par, 215.
Stetson won the 16-team event at 23- under par, topping Wofford by five shots. Wofford Mark Joye won the individual title with an even-par 72 to finish at eight-under par, 208.
"We got off to a bad start today, but we didn't give up and kept grinding," said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. "This was a great event for our young guys to get some experience and to start our season."
The Dolphins finished at 879, 15-over par, tying their 14th lowest 54-hole team total since 1993. Fredeking's finish is the second best of his career and his first event that he finished in red numbers.
Justin Jones and Will Braude both carded a two-over par 74 in their final round. Jones tied for 38th at 220, four-over par, while Braude tied for 48th at 223, seven-over par.
Gavin St. John Frost rounded out the team score with a three-over par 75 to tie 64th at 225, nine- over par. Jamey Salmon tied for 75th in his first collegiate event, shooting a 77 to finish at 12-over par, 228.
The Dolphins are off for a week until heading to Haig Point, S.C. for the Rees Jones Intercollegiate on Oct. 4.
