Men’s golf faces tough field at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate
The JU men’s golf team returns to action against a strong field at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate.

The Dolphins will be teeing it up against national powers South Carolina, Michigan State and Georgia State – starting with 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.

“This is a great field and a great event for our team,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “The golf course is fantastic and will provide an excellent test for the teams here.”

JU enters the event after tying for 12th at the season opening Sea Trail Intercollegiate. Bobby Fredeking had the best finish for the Dolphins, tying for 16th in the individual competition with rounds of 70, 71 and 74.

“Bobby had a great summer and he’s continuing to play at high level now that the season has started,” Blackburn said. “He has the ability to go deep and his confidence level is rubbing off on the other guys on the team.”

The one change to the lineup this week and getting his first collegiate start this week is Taylor Szyndlar, a freshman from West Palm Beach, Fla.

“Taylor has a lot of potential and is coming off some good rounds in practice and qualifying,” Blackburn said. “We have a lot of young guys that we want to see in action and Taylor earned his spot for this week’s event.”
