Men’s golf set to tee off at the Savannah Mizuno Intercollegiate
With rounds of promise in its first two events, the JU men’s golf team is looking to build off that momentum at the Savannah Mizuno Intercollegiate.

The Dolphins enter the event after an eighth place finish at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate, led by Bobby Fredeking’s third place finish.

“We’re looking forward to teeing it up against some good teams on a great golf course,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “We learned a lot about our team last year as this event and this is a great test of every facet of your game.”

After a wildly successful summer, Fredeking has started his sophomore season well with two top 20 finishes. Of the six rounds he’s played thus far, four have been par or better, with season-best round of 70 in the opening round of the Sea Trail Intercollegiate.

He leads the team in stroke average (72.0) and is ranked 128th nationally in the Golfstat Cup.

“Bobby has gotten off to a great start,” Blackburn said. “He worked hard on his game this summer and it has really paid off this year.”

Joining Fredeking in the starting lineup this week is Justin Jones, Will Braude, Taylor Szyndlar, Gavin St. John Frost. Playing as an individual this week and making his collegiate debut is Trey Douglas, a talented freshman from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

The Dolphins highlight a field that includes host Georgia Southern, Davidson, East Carolina, Elon, Florida Gulf Coast, Furman, Old Dominion, Samford, Troy, Winthrop, Wofford and Rutgers. A shotgun start is set for 8 a.m., with 36 holes on Monday and the final round on Tuesday.
