Men's golf ties for eighth at the Savannah Mizuno Intercollegiate
Bobby Fredeking carded a one-under par 71 in the final round of the Savannah Mizuno Intercollegiate, leading the JU men’s golf team to a tie for eighth place.

Fredeking continued his stellar season with his second straight top 10 finish, posting under par scores in two of the three rounds.

East Carolina won the 15-team event at 12-under par, 852, shooting an even-par round 288 in the final round. David Watkins won the individual title at 11-under par, 205, by shooting a three-under par 69 in the final round.

“We’re making progress, but we’re leaving way too many shots on the course,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “I’m pleased that we’re getting better each time out and with a young team, we’re going to get better as we get more experience.”

One of the bright spots was a stellar second round for JU as the Dolphins shot a five-under par 283, which is tied for the eighth-best round since 1993.

The Dolphins finished in a three-way tie with Florida Gulf Coast and Troy at 883, 19-over par, and was just one shot back of Atlantic Sun Conference rival Kennesaw State.

Justin Jones had his best finish of the season, tying for 19th at three-over par, 219 after shooting a three-over par 75.

Will Braude posted the second best round of the day for JU, carding a two-over par 74 to tie for 27th at six-over par, 222.

Gavin St. John Frost shot a six-over par 78 to tie for 52nd at 227, 11-over par. Taylor Szyndlar shot a seven-over par 79 to finish in 71st at 234, 18-over par. Trey Douglas wrapped up his first collegiate event with a six-over par 78 to tie for 77th at 24-over par, 240.

The Dolphins will take a day off before heading to Daytona Beach for the BCU Invitational at LPGA International, which will start with opening round on Friday.
