Russell Knox wins first stage of PGA Tour Q-School
Former JU golf standout Russell Knox won the first stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School at the St. John’s Golf and Country Club on Saturday.
Knox carded a six-under par 66 in the final round to top former Georgia star Chris Kirk by three shots in advancing to the second stage in the grueling Q-School process.
The win at the first stage comes after his most successful season in two years on the NGA Hooters Tour. He finished third on the tour’s money list with more than $90,000 in earnings, including his first win at a professional at the Silver Star Hotel & Casino Golf Classic presented by Michelob Ultra – winning $33,566.
He came into Q-School on fire, racking up five straight top 20 finishes, with three top-3 finishes in his last four events.
Knox led the 22 people that move on to the second stage, which is set for Nov. 18-21, with the goal of advancing to the final stage set for Dec. 2-7 at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla.
