Men’s golf in 12th after 36 holes at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic
Jamey Salmon carded a one-under par 71 in the opening round and is tied for 11th after 36 holes in the inaugural AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic.

Salmon’s solid play led the Dolphins, who struggled as a team, posting rounds of 310 and 302 to sit in 12th place. 10th ranked UNF leads the event at one-under par, 575, while ECU’s Harold Varner and Chattanooga’s Stephan Jaeger lead the individual competition at four-under par.

“We made a lot of mistakes today and didn’t take advantage of our opportunities on the putting green,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn.

Salmon opened the tournament with a bogey by answered with three birdies offset by one other bogey in the round of 71. His afternoon round started with a bogey, but only two birdies, were able to show up on the scorecard as he posted a two-over par, 74.

Nick Torrance rebounded from playing the first six holes six-over par by playing the final 30 holes at even-par to sit in a tie for 29th at six-over par.

Bobby Fredeking carded rounds of 79 and 78 to finish in a tie for 64th at 13-over par. Brett McKinnon shot an 83 in the morning and followed with a 77 in the afternoon to finish in a tie for 67th at 16-over par.

Brian Phelan posted back-to-back rounds of 83 to finish in 83rd. Thomas Nessler, playing as an individual, shot rounds of 84 and 83 to finish in 84th. The Dolphins will tee it up on Tuesday morning in the final round with live scoring available via Golfstat.com.
