Men's Golf Finishes Fifth At A-Sun Championship

DAYTONA, Fla. - Senior Luis Rivera (Jacksonville/Terry Parker) fired a final-round 68 to lead surging Jacksonville to a fifth-place finish at the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Golf Championship as the Dolphins shot a five-under-par 283 in Friday's final round at the 6,908-yard, par-72 Indigo Lakes Golf Course in Daytona. JU, which posted the second-best round of the tournament, moved past Troy State, Belmont and Florida Atlantic with a three-round total of 882 (299-300-283), just seven strokes back of fourth-place Campbell (291-292-292=875). Jacksonville State won its second-straight conference championship with a 15-under 849 (284-285-280), which tied the lowest three-day total in A-Sun history.
Senior Andy Allen (Jacksonville/Wolfson) fired a final-round 71 to finish in a tie for 16th with a five-over 221 (75-75-71), while freshman Travis Ausherman (Middletown, Md.) shot a career-best 72 for the final round to finish in a tie for 29th. Senior Derek Ausherman (Middletown, Md.), Travis' brother, also shot an even-par 72 to finish in a tie for 31st with a 226 (77-77-72), while junior Will Morgan (Berkshire, England) tied for 35th with a 228 (73-79-76=228).
UCF's Stefan Wistorf earned individual medallist honors after firing a 13-under 203, which is the lowest three-day total in A-Sun history. Jacksonville State receives the A-Sun's automatic bid into the NCAA East Regionals, which are slated for the University Club in Auburn, Ala.
