ROYAL ST. GEORGE'S, Scotland - Duncan Stewart's run at the British Amateur ended on Thursday morning as he fell to Ross McGowan 5 & 4 on the historic Royal St. George's Golf Course.

Stewart had battled through two rounds of match play to make the round of 32 before falling to the veteran amateur McGowan, who had dispatched Arizona State star Alejandro Canizares.

"Duncan is tough competitor who hates to lose, so this is going to be tough for him," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "But, this is a great experience for him. He will be able to take this experience and build off of it when he returns for next season."

Stewart's 2006 season has been highlighted by his second straight Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, becoming just the third player all time to defend the conference title. In the process, he posted a tournament record score which broke fellow Scot Colin Montgomerie's record.

His busy summer golf schedule will continue in the coming weeks as he and teammate Russell Knox attempt to qualify for the 2006 British Open.
