July 10, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Keith Spence, a native of Aberdeenshire, Scotland, has signed with the JU men's golf team and will be a key player for the Dolphins in the 2006-07 season.

His impressive junior resume includes an 11th place finish at the North of Scotland Open, as well as a 22nd place finish at the Scottish Boys Open. He was also a semifinalist at the St. Andrews Junior Championship.

"With Keith's signing, we now have a lot of depth at the four and five positions," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "Keith has a lot of experience playing in some of the top junior events in Scotland and those experiences will help him as he makes the transition to the collegiate level."

Spence comes to JU at great time as the Dolphins are coming off the 2006 Atlantic Sun Championship and a berth in the NCAA East Regional. The Dolphins return all five starters from a year ago, but Spence will push for time at the No. 4 and 5 positions.

"Keith is going to come in and compete for a spot on the travel squad right away," Taketa said. "Competition makes players get better and his addition to the squad will be a big boost to the program."
