Men's golf takes third at Furman Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Jacksonville men's golf team posted a final round total of 293, but it was not enough as the Dolphins tied for third place at the Furman Invitational on Sunday.

Virginia Tech won the event by four shots over Elon with a final round of 290, finishing with a three-round total of 873. Elon's Jayson Judy carded a three-under par 69 in the final round to win the individual competition with a 54-hole total of five-under par, 211.

JU senior Duncan Stewart shot a one-under par 71 in the final round to tie for second at two-under par, 214.

"We came out today and finished strong, but we've got a lot of work to do to get ready for conference," said JU head coach Jim Taketa.

Russell Knox claimed another top 20 finish after posting a three-over par 75 to finish with a four-over par total of 220, tying for 19th.

Matt Kleinrock tied Stewart for the best round of the day, carding a one-under par 71 to finish in a tie for 50th at nine-over par, 225.

Joshua Kinsey and Jamie Kennedy each carded a four-over par 76, with Kinsey tying for 65th and Kennedy finishing in a tie for 69th.

The Dolphins tee it up again at the Wofford Invitational on April 2.
