Men's golf finishes third at the Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Duncan Stewart fired a three-under par 69 as the Jacksonville men's golf team carded a one-over par round of 289 to finish in third place at the Wofford Invitational presented by VAULT.

Stewart's final round propelled him into the top 20 in the individual competition, tying him for 18th at two-over par, 218.

Elon carded a two-under par 286 to win the title with a three-round total of 857 for a 10-shot win in the 14-team event. Charleston Southern held off the Dolphins by one for second place, finishing with an 867 total.

"We knew we had dug a big hole after the first round, but I'm pleased with how we responded," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "The next two weeks are going to important for the guys to get their games as sharp as possible to defend the conference title."

Joining Stewart in the top 20 was teammates Russell Knox and Matt Kleinrock. Knox tied for fourth with a one-over par round of 73 to finish at four-under par, 212. Kleinrock posted an under-par score again, a one-under 71, to tie for 12th at even-par, 216.

Joshua Kinsey and Jamie Kennedy each carded a four-over par 76 in the final round. Kinsey tied for 41st at eight-over par, 224, while Kennedy tied for 58th at 12-over par, 228.

The Dolphins tee up for the final time in the regular season in two weeks as they defend their Atlantic Sun Conference title at Sanctuary Cove in Brunswick, Ga.
