Duncan Stewart, Russell Knox selected for NCAA Regionals

May 7, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville men's golf program will be represented in the NCAA Regionals for the third straight year as Duncan Stewart and Russell Knox were selected to play in the East Regional on May 17-19 at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta.

Stewart is the top-seeded individual in the regional with Knox being seeded fifth. The Atlantic Sun Conference is well represented, with four of the six individuals coming from the league.

A year ago, the duo led the Dolphins to the A-Sun Championship and the automatic bid.

"I'm elated for these guys to get in," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "I had a good feeling that Duncan was going to in, but for Russell to get in as well is a testament to how well he played this spring."

The two Dolphins join four other individuals and 27 other teams battling to advance to the national championship. Ten teams and two individuals not on advancing teams will move on from each regional to the championship finals.

Stewart, a two-time A-Sun champion and winner of seven collegiate events in his career, finished the season with a 71.27 stroke average - the best on the team. He has been ranked in the top 10 nationally by GolfStat for most of the season.

The selection marks Stewart's third straight trip to the postseason, having been selected as an individual in 2005 as well.

Knox has been a rock as well, finishing second on the team in stroke average at 71.52. Knox has finished in the top 20 in every tournament over the past two seasons, including one win.

In last year's East Regional, Knox had the best finish by a Dolphin - tying for 18th and missing a playoff to go to the national championship by three shots to Indiana's Jorge Campillo.

Both players have been practicing in anticipation for the event and will head to the site for a practice round on May 16.
