Men’s lacrosse to host inaugural scrimmage next Saturday against team of all-stars
Much like its regular season schedule, the JU men’s lacrosse team isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to offseason scrimmages. The Dolphins will take on a team of professional players on Saturday, Oct. 24 on the football practice field as the state of Florida will get its first ever look at Division I lacrosse.

Some of professional lacrosse’s top players will be on hand to take on the new Dolphin team, including the likes of Terry Kimener (Chicago Machine), Bryan Bendig (Boston Blazers), Nick Williams (Ohio State), Zach Gagel (Chicago Machine) and two-time NLL “Rookie of the Week” Peet Poillon (Washington Bayhawks).

“This is a tremendous opportunity for our young team to go against some of the best players in the country,” said head coach Matt Kerwick. “There will be some amazing athletes there to show our team the speed and intensity it takes to compete at the highest level. We are excited that our team sponsor Gait will be on hand as we begin our ascent in Division I lacrosse and it should be a great day of lacrosse in an excited atmosphere on campus.

“The guys have been working very hard in preparation for our opener in February against UNC. We have a long way to go but we are pleased with the approach and commitment of the team so far.”

The JU men’s lacrosse program will face an ambitious schedule in its inaugural season, starting with the program’s first game against nationally ranked North Carolina on Feb. 6.

The Dolphins, who are the first and only Division I program in the state of Florida, are making a visit to nationally ranked Duke while having six home games on the slate, including a visit from Denver and a trip to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Presbyterian.

The scrimmage is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Oct. 24.
