Men’s lacrosse announces captains for 2011 campaign
The JU men’s lacrosse team has selected sophomore defenders Jake Ziegler and Cory Lovrich as the captains of the 2011 Dolphin squad.

“I am proud to announce that these two young men have been named captains for the 2011 Jacksonville lacrosse program,” said JU head coach Matt Kerwick. “We had 10 members of the team receive votes from their peers and that is a great sign since we have strong leadership at each position.”

Lovrich started 11 games last year for the Dolphins. The sophomore collected 23 ground balls on the season and caused 10 turnovers.

“Corey returned to campus stronger and faster after having an excellent freshman season last spring,” said Kerwick. “He was a steady and solid defenseman for us last year after recovering from knee surgery. This fall he returned in tremendous shape and has competed with a purpose every day. He truly earned this honor to be named captain and is without question one of the hardest workers in this program.”

Ziegler started all 13 games last season as a freshman. He scored one goal and tallied two assists while picking up 22 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers, good for second on the team.

“As the leader of our defense, Jake had a great season in 2010,” said Kerwick. He was able to shut down or limit each of the top attackmen he matched up with, including many who are considered to be some the best in collegiate lacrosse. He leads by example on and off the field and will be counted on to pick up right where he left of last spring as we prepare for Georgetown on February 20th.”
