Late JU rally falls short against Towson

Despite a furious late rally and a pair of three-goal games, the JU men’s lacrosse team dropped a 12-10 decision to Towson in the season opener here Saturday.

He was helped by Mann and freshman Rob Wertz, both of whom found the net in the quarter.

After a back and forth third quarter, Towson pulled out to an 11-8 lead with 8:23 in the game on a goal by Sean Maguire, who had a three-goal day for the Tigers.

The Dolphins wouldn’t fold and fought back to 11-10 on a TJ Kenary man-up goal with 3:54 to play. His effort was preceded by a goal from Mann with 6:48 to go.

Maguire iced the game quickly after Kenary’s goal as he rifled in a shot with 3:45 to play, the last score of the game.

Max Gurowski and David Goldman also scored for JU; Gurowski’s goal with 6:22 to play in the first quarter was the first score of the season for the Dolphins and came on an assist from Waffle, who had a pair of assists in the game.

Towson’s Thomas DeNapoli had three goals, Robby Zoppo2 and Dan Kramer, Matt Hughes, Carl Iacona and Michael Brashears all had a goal for Towson (1-0).

JU plays Sun., Feb. 19 against Navy in the Moe’s Sunshine Classic at EverBank Field with game time set for 4 p.m. That game will follow the first game of the day, fifth-ranked Denver taking on Ohio State.
