Late JU rally falls short in loss to Air Force
Air Force scored five consecutive goals in the third quarter then held off a final JU charge as the Dolphins fell to the Falcons 11-8 at Bolles High School Tuesday.
Air Force (4-4) expanded a 5-4 halftime lead to a 10-5 lead after three by scoring two goals in six seconds and another two in the last 43 seconds of the quarter.
The Dolphins (4-5, 1-1 MAAC) tried coming back in the final period as Ari Waffle scored an assisted goal (from Owen Green) with 13:54 to play and Donovan Lange and Quint Miller scored with :43 and :24 to go but the game was out of reach.
Waffle, who had eight goals Saturday against VMI, had a pair against Air Force as did Max Gurowski. Cameron Mann, who now has a point in 37 consecutive games, and Conor Igoe had the other tallies. Igoe’s was one of the fanciest of the season as he hit the net after a spin move and tied the score at 5 with 10:39 to go In the third, before the Falcon outburst. He also had an assist as did TJ Kenary.
Mann and goalkeeper Pete DeLuca led the way defensively as Mann had five ground balls and a caused turnover and Deluca had four ground balls, one caused turnover and saved 12 of the 37 shots he faced.
The Dolphins return to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play Saturday when the travel to Siena for a game with a noon start.
